When you do a one wheel burnout, the one wheel is going twice as fast as you think it is. *The diff does have a ratio, but all open diff units are the same 2:1 ratio. It is much easier to do a 5th gear swap than a R&P swap. both the Honda and VW boxes would need split open, taken apart to access the R&P and diff, and then rebuilt again.

Įither way (production or custom) the trans is being opened and rebuilt. These are custom sets for the VW, they don't come in production cars. I didn't see anything for the 02J but since it is basically an 02A box, one of the 02A sets might work. VWMS (VW MotorSport) offered R&P sets for the 020 trans type, and a couple for the 02A. Some company has decided enough people will pay for them and they put them into production. If they are using actual custom R&P sets, then someone made them. they will be using R&P sets out of other Honda and Acura cars that will fit the trans they have. The Honda guys will be facing the same issues the VW owners will. That WILL change the overall ratio of all of the gears in the trans, including reverse. What you are asking about is the ring and pinion, or final drive ratio. The stock diff is an open diff, it sends power to whatever wheel is easier to spin.Ī LSD means the power will be sent to the wheel that can best use it, the wheel with the traction. it is just responsible for power delivery to the left and right wheels, it does nothing to the ratios of anything.* The LSD is the differential portion of the trans. Click to expand.A LSD won't change any ratios at all.
